HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH & HISTORY
Integrated English: World, American & British Literature
****We have separate Course Outline Topics for each area & can use your charter school Course Outline Assignments
Instructor: Martha Desmond Class Minimum: 4 students Class Time: W—10:00-11:15 Class Fee: $320 per semester
High School English should incorporate writing skills, genres of literature, and formal and informal speaking. Since all levels of high school English contain these same goals, Integrated English will give students the opportunity to cover genres of literature and writing with a variety of students. At-home assignments will vary according to the type of English credit students need: World, American, or British. Class activities will sometimes be in one large group and at other times be class specific. For instance, when studying a genre of literature such as poetry, all students can participate in one class discussion; however, when reviewing the nuances of a particular work or type of writing, students may be put into smaller groups. Students will turn their writing assignments in on Google Docs. Reading lists for World, American and British Literature are available for families and charter schools. At times, creative projects will be encouraged for a deeper connection into the characters, symbolism, and themes in literary works. Weekly Schedules & List of Assignments, plus necessary resources will be emailed to parents and, upon request, students.
